Moving to Fort Collins taught me some new, and potentially expensive, lessons about buying and selling a home. There are some very FoCo-specific considerations to be aware of. The arid climate drives the need to understand water restrictions, or to do a sewer scope during the inspection. The clay soil can damage foundations. The City of Fort Collins has strict permitting requirements for almost any major mechanical or architectural changes to a property. Hail storms are very common here, as evidenced by some of the cars you’ll see!
Beyond that list, there are also universal lessons I’ve taken in after owning 13 homes across three states. Whether you’re a local who is upsizing or downsizing, a transplant like me, or even a first-timer navigating how to buy a home, I’ve created this resource to help you.
If there are topics you’d like me to research and post about, I’d love to hear what would help!
